How I'm keeping busy during social distancing | Recap of my first Mother's Day
What am I (we) doing to occupy my time during social distancing and isolation? Honestly, not much, but, I'll tell you about it anyway.
Soooooooo the last two posts were kinda heavy and serious, but I felt they were important and necessary given our current situation. While I will no doubt have other 'serious' things to talk about, let's get back to the light-hearted banter I envisioned for this blog.
Okay, what am I (we) doing to keep busy?
1. Well, I started a lifestyle/mommy/me blog that you're reading right now. Thanks for the support :) ;)
2. We're spoiling Amelia. By "WE", I mean Douviere is spoiling Amelia. For example, before he started working from home she used to sit in her chair to eat...up to half an hour...no problem...now... she won't sit still for more than 10 minutes.
These days she'll sit on his lap to eat...or... he'll fly her around the house while I sit waiting for them to drop by ever so often to pop a piece of food in her mouth. This is what dinner time looked like a week ago.
3. I'm attempting to get back in shape. So many people are working on their "glow up" for post quarantine. I figure why not me too? However, my "glow up" may be more of a light sparkle. My fitness routine isn't very complicated.
When it's warm enough I go for walks around our neighborhood with Amelia. We haven't had the best weather so that rarely happens.
I started an 8-week exercise program about 4 weeks ago.....I'm still on Day 1. No lie, I keep starting over every week because I never actually get past or finish the first workout in the series. At this point, I need to move on to Day 2 or give up. I think I'll give up...Don't judge me. I'm already looking for something else that might hold my interest better. #thestruggleisreal #ihateexercise
We're also staying hydrated. D started this drinking water thing a few weeks back. He even downloaded the Water Drink Reminder app to remind him to drink enough water throughout the day. I never actually agreed to participate, but he's made it very clear that he's disappointed in me for not sticking with it.
Anyway, what else.....
4. Ohhh, on a fun note, I started a small renovation project in our half bath. Most likely I'll share more about that later. We had plans to do a few things around the house this year, but for now, they're on hold.
5. Obviously, I'm binge-watching shows and movies on Netflix and Prime. However, I can only watch so much with a little human climbing all over me.
Shows you should definitely check out - Love is Blind, Upload, Vikings, Prodigal Son, The Last Kingdom, and Self Made.
For those of you with kids, Amelia recommends Super Why, Paw Patrol, and Pocoyo on Netflix. Also ChuChu TV on YouTube. Yes, we let her watch tv...don't judge.
6. Speaking of Amelia, we finally got her sleep trained. If you don't know, sleep training refers to teaching a baby to fall asleep by themselves, which can be done with a variety of techniques. If we let her, Mia will roam the house till 11 pm until she finally gives in to pure exhaustion.
We couldn't stomach the cry it out method...that's just cruel....so we used camping out, where we stayed close to her (while she's in her crib) until she falls asleep. Then we gradually moved further away, reducing how much we helped her to settle down.
Despite how it looks in the video, it actually worked. Thankfully, we no longer have to sit on the floor next to her crib. Once we put her in there, she'll play for a bit, give a few cries, and then put herself to sleep.
Now we just need her to consistently sleep through the night.
7. Finally, we're doing our best to stay connected to our family and friends and stay up-to-date on what's going on in the world from reputable news sources.
Okay, I think that's it, a few things but not a whole lot.
But, before you go, as promised, here a recap of My First Mother's Day.
Basically, I had an awesome quarantine Mother's Day.
I've been needing a day of self-care and that's exactly what I got. Thanks to my awesome husband.
After eating my delish breakfast, I got some much-needed alone time, lazying around in bed, while D took care of Amelia and cooked lunch. My husband doesn't do much cooking, but, he definitely knows what he's doing. There's a new rule in our house - He's responsible for cooking ribs from now on.
Did I mention my afternoon nap? Yup, I slept for two hours, played with Amelia and had dinner - I ate more ribs :)
By the way, thanks to my mom for the beautiful fruit basket and my hubby for my priceless necklace.
